What to Expect as a New Patient

During your first visit to Leaf Dental, you will meet with your dentist and hygienist to discuss your oral health status, needs, goals, and concerns. We will also review your medical and health history, current medications, and habits that can influence your oral health and wellness.

Our team then performs a detailed dental examination and takes a complete series of x-rays for diagnostics and to establish a baseline for your oral health. We use digital dental x-rays for faster, more detailed, and more comfortable radiography. Over time, we can see changes in your smile’s soft and hard tissues based on these x-rays.

Finally, the hygienist provides a thorough teeth cleaning and polish to give you a fresh, spot-free smile. Only a dental professional can properly and safely remove plaque and tartar buildup on the teeth and around the gumline.

Ideally the interval is six months. Aside from checking for cavities or gum disease, it is a great opportunity to screen for oral cancer. In the presence of gum disease, we may discuss three to four month intervals.

Absolutely. Our dentists and clinical team are experts at helping you through the nerves to get the dental treatment you need. The first visit is just a checkup and cleaning. You will then discuss your goals with the dentist and decide what pace you would like to take. We customize the treatment with you in mind!

Absolutely. Dental x-rays are not what they used to be. We currently use digital xrays with very direct collimation to focus the beam only on the teeth. This makes it 1/6th of the radiation of traditional dental xrays.

Cavities are actually caused by bacteria in the mouth that uses sugar as its food and then produces an acid as a byproduct. That acid then eats through the tooth to cause a cavity!

Cosmetic Dentistry

Dental implants are one of the most significant advancements in dentistry. Unlike a dental bridge attached to teeth adjacent to the missing space, a dental implant is a standalone prosthesis placed into the jawbone, replacing your tooth and its valuable root.

We fabricate a dental crown to attach to the implant for single dental implants. The crown functions like a natural tooth, and it is a surprisingly conservative treatment for replacing missing teeth.

Your dentist may discuss an implant-retained bridge or denture if you have multiple missing teeth.

The Dental Implant Process

The first step to a new smile is a consultation with your Brooklyn dentist. This appointment determines your eligibility for dental implants. If you are a candidate, we will schedule your implant placement.

After placement, you'll enjoy an integration period. This lasts a few months and encourages the implant posts to integrate into the jawbone.

The final step is crown or prosthetic placement. Typically, it takes up to six dental implants to secure a prosthetic.

Invisalign®

Yes, all of our adult dentists are Invisalign-certified. Please contact our dental office in Brooklyn to learnpatient putting in clear plastic aligner | invisalign brooklyn ny more about Invisalign and if it's the right treatment for you.

What Is Invisalign, and What Issues Can It Correct?

Invisalign is an innovative orthodontic treatment system that uses clear aligner technology to gradually move teeth into the proper position. Mild cases of malocclusion can benefit from Invisalign, including concerns like:

  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Crossbites
  • Open bites
  • Crooked or misaligned teeth
  • Twisted teeth
  • Asymmetrical teeth
  • A misaligned bite
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Gaps or spacing between teeth

Invisalign clear aligners are smooth, plastic trays you wear over your teeth. However, the beauty of this treatment is that the trays are removable and transparent. This means you can wear them without anyone knowing you're having orthodontic treatment, and you can eat whatever you want without limitations.

Unlike traditional metal braces, clear aligners don't have uncomfortable or unsightly brackets and wires that disrupt your smile line. Invisalign is excellent for anyone––especially students and professionals––who don't want to have metal braces to get straight, beautiful teeth.

Pediatric Dentistry

We will do all we can to make it a pleasant experience! Our Pediatric Dentist (a specialist) will ensure your child gets familiar with our practice and will provide preventative recommendations and perform a cleaning. He will evaluate the development and will make suggestions on home care and answer any questions you may have!

The Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children visit the dentist for the first time within six months of their first tooth eruption. This typically means a child should see a dentist by their first birthday.

Scheduling your child’s first dental appointment at an early age allows a dentist to assess and begin monitoring the development of their gums, teething process, and jawbone development. It’s also a good early opportunity to identify and address potential bad habits like thumb-sucking.

At What Age Should Children Be Regularly Seeing the Dentist?

According to the American Dental Association (https://www.ada.org/resources/ada-library/oral-health-topics/caries-risk-assessment-and-management), kids are vulnerable to cavities as soon as they’ve got teeth. That said, after that first visit to the dentist, barring any emergencies, your child shouldn’t need to go back for another couple of years.

At that point, around age 3 or 4, regular visits to the dentist can ensure that your kids get all the preventive and corrective care they need to avoid cavities and more serious issues all while establishing a strong rapport with their dentist and learning the importance of a lifelong commitment to good oral hygiene.

A Top-Tier Pediatric Dentist in Brooklyn

If you’re in Dumbo and looking for a skilled and compassionate dental care team to help nurture your child’s long-term commitment to good oral hygiene and regular dental cleanings and exams, contact our friendly and knowledgeable team here at Leaf Dental to schedule a consultation!

This is a great question! In fact, not all baby teeth that get cavities will need to be fixed. If they will fall out shortly, we can usually leave them untreated. There are many baby teeth that stay in for up to ten years! If those teeth get cavities and are left untreated, they can abscess leading to baby teeth root canals. If decay, which is bacteria, is left too long in the mouth, it can actually help cause decay on other teeth in the mouth including the permanent ones!
